Day Off

Dylan and I had a nice day off from school today.

We spent most of the day riding the river trail.  We made a few stops along the way.   We had a nice picnic at Gazebo Park, fed the fish at the hatchery and played in the river.  Now we're both refreshed and ready for school tomorrow.  We're ALL excited about Grandma and Grandpa coming tomorrow!

Preschool Success!

Dylan had a great first day of Preschool!  There were a few tears this morning but overall he was VERY brave!  I had been dreading this day for awhile and it went way better than I ever expected.  He even said he wants to go back!

Taylor Lake

Now that the kids are getting a bit older we are trying to do more hiking.  Today we did one of our favorite hikes... Taylor Lake.  The trail is only 2 miles round trip and has very little elevation gain.  The kids did great!

Strike a pose!

We made it to Taylor Lake! The dogs took a dip in the freezing water.

It was pretty chilly at the lake. We ate a quick lunch and then had to turn around quickly because of an incoming thunderstorm.  We did get a little wet on the way down.

Horse Play

We have some friends who recently bought two Icelandic Ponies... a  Mare and her Foal.  They are so adorable.  The Foal is only 2 months old and so sweet.  Today we went to visit and play with the ponies.

 Foal nursing.

The kiddos loving on the foal.  He loved to have his neck scratched.  I just love his mohawk / mane.

Dylan riding the mare... Heart Love.  Can you tell a four year old named her? The Foal's name is Bogo (buy one get one)  So cute!

Holli riding Heart Love.

Garden hose water is oh so good!

Last Days of Summer

In just a few days 3 of us will be starting school. I am starting an Anatomy and Physiology class in preparation for Nursing School.  Holli will be starting 1st grade and Dylan will be going to Preschool for the first time!  We're going to make the best of these last few days of summer.  There will be park dates, horseback riding and maybe some swimming.

Yesterday we had some fun at Santa Rita Park.  Typical beautiful, sunny day in Colorado.

Fair Filled Weekend

We just finished up a weekend full of fun at the fair.  We got to see a couple of our friends show their cows and pigs.  Watching all the kids care for their animals was a great experience for Holli and Dylan.

Holli loved playing with the piglets.  They were so cute!

There was a corn shucking contest.  We didn't enter the contest but we did help shuck the corn once the contest is over.  The corn needed to be shucked for the BBQ the next day.  There was approx 400 ears of corn!

The fair wouldn't be complete without the demolition derby...Durango's high class entertainment.

We got to see a car catch fire!  Good times!

The kids road rides at the carnival.

Holli on the slide. I wish you could see her face in the picture.  She was a little nervous!

As I mentioned in a previous post, I entered my chocolate chip cookies in the baking contest.  I won FIRST place.  Yippee!

...and Holli won a ribbon for her pillow!

County Fair

Tomorrow is the start of the La Plata County Fair.  Yes, we do love the fair.  We love looking at all the animals, the demolition derby, the horse shows and the carnival.  This year Holli and I both have entries in the fair.  Since Holli is a Cloverbud with 4-H she is eligible to enter an item in any of the categories. She choose sewing.  She made a really cute pillow with ruffles.  She did all the work herself with very little help from me.  I think she did great!

I am entering the chocolate chip cookie contest.  I have no idea who my competition will be.  Fingers crossed for a ribbon!

Salad

I'm going to have a nice little salad today with the lettuce I just picked from our garden.  It looks so yummy!  Holli saw and said "wow, that looks like REAL lettuce".  Um... it is REAL lettuce!  She is so funny in that she would rather eat green beans out of a can rather than fresh green beans from our garden.

Winnie and her girdle

Poor Winnie is having to wear a girdle and it's not because she's concerned about her figure.  Last week we found a big mass on her chest.  She went to see the Dr and they were puzzled.  They took a sample and sent it to a lab.  While we were waiting for the results the mass opened up!  Yikes!  We've got it all cleaned up now and she is just wearing the girdle to catch any more drainage.  The Dr gave her some pain medication and she seems to be feeling okay.. she'll just  need to be nursed for a couple days.

Last Couple of days

Hard to believe that it is already August!  We've been having a great summer.  We've kept busy and had lots of fun.  Here are a few photos from the last couple of days.

Now, this is a real cowboy.  Dylan has started to ride Tigger and is doing great.

The kids cooling off in the river after riding bikes on the BMX track.

Little guy had to do it, too!
