Weekend happenings

So far, we've had a a pretty good holiday weekend.  Friday evening we went to the Bar D Chuck-wagon. La Plata Electric Association received a Community Heritage Award and as a reward, all employees were invited to the Chuck-wagon. The Bar D Wranglers are always fun to see.

This morning Drew rode the Quarter Horse to Purgatory.   Drew had a good time and a great finish.  We think he came in 4th but the official results haven't been posted yet.

While Drew was racing, the kids and I went to Greenmount Cemetery with our 4-H club and put flags on veterans graves.  The kids had fun looking at some of the old headstones and finding the graves of servicemen.

Our weekend continues with the kids Iron Horse bike race on Sunday morning and volunteering at the Spring Creek Horse Rescue on Monday.  We also hope to squeeze in some horse and motorcycle riding.  The kids will be back to school on Tuesday for their final week.  After that, we leave for Panama City, FL!

A Day on the trail

Dylan and I had a very busy day yesterday.  We dropped Holli off at school and then hopped on our bikes and took off.

The first thing was did was ride to the fairgrounds to take care of Tigger.  We then headed to the Rec Center to go swimming.  We were there for all of 15 minutes before 85 4th graders showed up.  They were on a field trip from Aztec, NM.  The pool was a bit too crowded for us so we moved on.

Rodeo Ridin'

Holli had a great run at the Rodeo this past weekend.  It is so fun to see her improve.  During her rodeo in March she ran the barrels in 27 seconds.  We thought that was great.  This past weekend she did it in 22 seconds!  So proud of her.  We are so happy that she has found something that she loves and works so hard at!

Bikes and Bridges

We've been loving our beautiful spring weather these past few days.

Drew participated in a bike race Wednesday evening.  The winner was a 15 year old kid.  Drew did great and was in the top 5.

Dylan, Chewy and I went on a hike / bike ride on the Colorado trail today.  I hiked and Dylan rode his bike. Here, Dylan had to check out our surroundings before we stopped for a snack.

Enjoying the creek.  Every time we would stop Dylan would say "this is awesome".

When we arrived at Tigger's this afternoon, Holli was thrilled to see this bridge set up in the arena.  She had so much time going back and forth over the bridge. I just LOVE that big blue sky!

Egg Drop

Holli's class had an egg drop project this week.  Each student was to work with their family to build a container that would protect a raw egg in a 2 story drop.  Drew and Holli came up with a great design!  The egg was housed in a little camera case and and suspended by rubber bands.  This contraption was then put inside a box to contain everything. We tested this by tossing it off our deck but this wasn't nearly as high as the school roof.

We were a little nervous when we saw how far the egg was going to fall.

But it survived!

Holli got to add her name to list of "eggs that survived"!  This was a really fun project!

Happy Arbor Day!

When I came down stairs this morning Holli was already dressed and ready to go.  She was wearing a green top and brown pants... she was a tree!   She did this all on her own in honor of Arbor Day.  So proud of that little girl!  Sniff, Sniff.

Spring Break

The kids and I just returned from a quick trip to Kansas City.  We went back for my Uncle's 70th Birthday party.  While there, we got to see family that came from Alaska, Georgia and North Carolina. It was fun seeing everyone.

We got to ride in a Limo! The kids loved it.

Chasing Grandpa with a confetti egg. I think they got him.

A trip to KC  wouldn't be complete without visiting the farmstead.
